Mid Argyll
Music Festival - Tenor Results
Added: 21st March, 2009
THE 30th annual Mid Argyll Music Festival got
off to a flying start at Lochgilphead Joint
Campus on Saturday, March 21.
Joining the traditional opening day piping
competitions were drumming classes, appearing in
the programme for the first time.
Adjudicators Stephen McQuillan and Gordon Brown,
both with the multi award-winning Boghall and
Bathgate Caledonia, agreed that though
classes were small in their first year, the
standard was high.
Stephen McQuillan said: ‘There are world-class
drummers and pipers in this area and it’s good
to see the festival marking that and helping the
next generation to come up. I would commend the
instructors, the standard of the drumming has
been a real credit to them.’
Lewis Thorpe from
Lochgilphead picked up the Billy McIvor Shield
for the best tenor drum performance. It was a
poignant moment for those who knew Billy,
including Lewis, who was one of his pupils.
